Change No. 7: Using Organic Products

In today's world is the world of goods, products are made from human hands with a variety of types and purposes, crafted from crude processing techniques, rather than handcrafted techniques that align with the purposes that are closer to nature. No matter how the products are manufactured, our primary concern should be whether the substance is safe for human health and for the environment.

As health and safety issues become more problematic, organic products derived from organic ingredients have become a new consumer trend. Most organic products do not use any chemicals, and if they do, they contain very small amounts. These products are made with certain processes that ensure organic standards.

According to the USDA (US Department of Agriculture), organic products have strict manufacturing and labeling requirements and must meet the following factors: produced using substances authorized and under the supervision of an authorized USDA National Organic Program certified agent that complies with the USDA organic regulations.

Food

It is important that the foods we ingest and the products we use are free of harmful chemicals. Organic foods are  foods that are raised or grown without artificial chemicals, such pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and preservatives, etc. Unlike non-organic foods, they do not contain growth stimulant hormones, antibiotics, or genetically modified organisms that can be harmful to the body.

Organic foods range from fresh fish, meat, eggs, vegetables to dairy products. Soda, biscuits, cereals, and most pre-packaged meats and dry foods are processed foods.

Cosmetics

Makeup products are high in toxins that can lead to cancer. I realize that this news will disappoint many of us. I have no problem when I am told to fast, but I'm a little hesitant when I am told not to apply lipstick! However, we need to replace the products that are made without harmful artificial chemicals.

According to LA Times: “… the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that they have found abestos contamination in eyelash makeup powder, glitter creams sold at Claire and Justice, two popular retailers with teenagers and young women. Abestos is a natural mineral that can be found in talc. But if the abestos is inhaled, it can cause permanent lung damage...and other forms of cancer. Needless to say, it's not a substance you want anywhere near your nose or mouth. ”  Read the rest of the article here.

There are tests that show that there are some cosmetic products, including lipstick, powder, and mascara, that contain lead, mercury, or many other hazardous contaminants. Aromatherapy is a world of poison. It is possible to find ways to prepare some basic products to use, rather than using items found in the marketplace, such as face creams and cleansers. I wash my face every night with homemade coconut oil. It’s very clean and does not damage the skin.

Other consumer products

By using deodorant products, shaving cream, toothpaste, antiseptic soap, shampoo, lotion, and many other household items and cleaning products, many consumers may have been exposed to triclosan, a substance that is believed to have a carcinogen under the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration).

When possible, choose organic products that are either fragrance-free or all natural. Instead of using harmful aerosols or air coolers, use essential oils instead or simply open your windows for fresh air. Also, consider adding more plants to your home. They are natural air detoxifiers!

For safer stain removal, look for a non-toxic label like Ecover at the market, or rub undiluted castile soap directly on the stain before washing it.

For hand sanitizers, choose one that contains alcohol and is triclosan free.

For a natural fabric softener, try white vinegar. Not only is it non-toxic, it also removes soap residue during the rinse cycle and helps prevent static electricity from forming in the dryer. White vinegar is your best choice for an overall cleansing, as others may stain.

When making an ecological assessment, look for specific information. Products that are marked "biodegradable" will decompose and are more environmentally friendly.
